William W. Nyland

Mr. William W. Nyland age 89, of Melrose formerly of Tampa passed away Monday, January 28, 2019, at Willey Manor Assisted Living in Keystone. He was born December 9, 1929, in Cadillac, Michigan to William and Lizzie Bell (Shoop) Nyland. Mr. Nyland retired as MSGT after serving twenty-six years active duty in the United States Air Force. Not only was he in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, but following his retirement he still stayed involved with the military by traveling to Iran to be a mechanic on the Bell Helicopters. Mr. Nyland had spent many years in Tampa following his retirement and was a paint specialist. He is a Christian with a kind heart who enjoyed being around people. He was also known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Playing cards especially poker is something he enjoyed doing and in his younger years he enjoyed square dancing. Mr. Nyland was a member of the AmVets Post 86 in Keystone Heights and Palatka Moose Lodge 184 where he would play BINGO on occasions. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his second wife of many years Barbara L. (Rhinehart) Nyland. His survivors are his two children Rebecca Davis (John) of Melrose and William "Bill" Nyland, Jr. of Homestead; four siblings Alice Herweyer, Marshall Nyland, Chuck Nyland (Sandy) and Jerry Nyland (Gail). Also left behind are Barbaras two children Mary C. Massaro and Ron L. Liccardi. The family will receive friends at Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Sunday, February 3, 2019, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Conner officiating. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to AmVets Post 86, 685 Brooklyn Bay Road, Keystone Heights, FL 32656.
