Mr. William Bill Caldwell Sumpter, 79 of Keystone Heights died at the Malcom Randall V.A. Medical Center in Gainesville on Wednesday, August 26, 2009. Bill was born in North Belmont, NC on June 20, 1930 to the late Joe L. and Nannie (Moore) Sumpter. Prior to retirement Bill had worked selling chainsaws for Homelite. In 1961 Bill and his family moved from Jacksonville to Keystone Heights where he became a member of the Shriners, Masons, and the Keystone Heights Sportsman Club. He was also a member of the Freshstart Fellowship Church in Keystone Heights and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann (Ragan) of Keystone Heights and their sons: Russell Rusty Dean Sumpter (Gina) and Scott Allen Sumpter both of Orlando. He is also survived by his brother Dale Sumpter (Debbie) of Shelby, NC, Grandchildren: Justin, Ryan, Skyler, Amanda, Rachel and Blaize, a daughter in law; Shelia McGrath, and close family friend; Marta Derepentigny. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth. Memorial services for Bill will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Freshstart Fellowship Church 7191 SR 21, Keystone Heights, FL 32656 with Pastor Steve Conner officiating.
