Frank Wheelus, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21st in Gainesville, FL.Frank was born in Cottondale, FL to Ellis Washington and Elizabeth Mercer Wheelus on April 21, 1928. Frank is preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Marion Elizabeth, of 66 years and 13 brothers and sisters.Frank is survived by his daughter, Barbara L. (Charlie) Golden of Keystone Heights, FL; son, Stanley J. (Dawn) Wheelus of Gainesville, FL; grandson, Robert Scott Manning of VA; step-grandsons Christopher (Lesley) Scott, Jr. of VA and Byron Scott of Gainesville, FL; step-granddaughters Courtney (Kenny) Lawson and Meghan Scott of VA; two great-granddaughters, Chelsy L. Manning and Kimberly L. Manning of VA; great-grandson, Joshua M. Manning of CA; three step great-grandchildren of VA; great-great-granddaughter, Jordynn L. Manning of VA and many nieces and nephews.Frank served in the U.S. Navy from May 1945 - July 1965 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with a specialty of Chief Boiler Technician. He retired from the VA Hospital in Gainesville, FL after 18 years. He was a member of the VA Bowling League for 40 years. He was a member of the local Early Ford V8 Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He joined the Masons in 1949.Services will be held at the Gainesville Baptist Church, 3570 NW 16th Blvd, Gainesville, FL on February 2nd.
