Mr. Woodrow D. Griffis age 87, of Starke passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Mr. Griffis was born on January 26, 1929 in Starke to the late Leonard and Ruby (Laramore) Griffis and was a lifelong resident. Woodrow served in the United States Army during World War II, was the owner/operator of Griffis & Son Fiberglass and was the designer and manufacturer of the original Stumpnocker boat. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church and a former member of the American Legion. Woodrow enjoyed working and feeding birds and squirrels. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years, Pauline (Michalchuk) Griffis. Survivors are: Children: Eleanor Koontz of Gainesville, Lucille Palazzi of Starke, Viola Haguewood of Gainesville, Woodrow Griffis, Jr. and Leonard Victor Griffis both of Starke, siblings: Doris King of Lawtey, Wanda Corbett of Hampton, Diane Moody of Theressa, Rosemary Vanzant, James Griffis, and Riley Griffis all of Starke. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at MADISON STREET BAPTIST CHURCH on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Justin Kirksey and Pastor Charles Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Crosby Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Madison Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 900 West Madison Street, Starke, FL 32091.
