Yvonne Mills St.John

Mrs. Yvonne Mills St. John passed away Wednesday evening November 14, 2018, surrounded by her family following a brief illness,She was born November 21, 1938 to the late James Boyce Phifer and late Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mills Phifer in Monroe, NC. Her four siblings: Kenneth, Jo, Libby and Lanson, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Randy Haigler, and stepson, Lee St. John.Her husband and soul mate, Roy L. St. John, Sr., survives Yvonne. After a brief courtship, they married on November 17, 1973, blending their families consisting of 4 children each, ala Brady Bunch style! Also surviving Yvonne is her grandson, Colton, whom they raised from infancy, her three sons: Ronnie (Lisa), Roger, Robin, and her three stepdaughters: June (Phyllis), Robyn (Mike) and Lisa (David). Ten other grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive her. Her brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Judy St John, and sister-in-law Barbara St. John also survive.She was a loyal and faithful servant of the Lord, serving for many years alongside her husband, Roy, as greeters at the church where they met, courted and married, University Blvd Church of the Nazarene. She also served for many years helping to coordinate meals and support for her church family during times of their need. Yvonne and Roy received a Distinguished Service Award from the church on March 30, 2014, a recognition that she truly enjoyed immeasurably.Yvonne epitomized service to others from helping to care for Roys mother years ago to raising her youngest grandchild, Colton, from infancy through adulthood. This latter endeavor came with the usual trappings of carpools, PTA meetings and too many field trips and during her retirement years.There is a quote attributed to Muhammad Ali that states "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth". Yvonne paid that rent handsomely and then some; she will always be an inspiration of selfless love, faith and service to her family and friends. The service to rejoice and celebrate Yvonnes life will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at University Blvd. Church of the Nazarene located at 3930 University Blvd. S, Jacksonville, FL. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am with the service beginning at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Pastors Mike Jackson and Steve Walker. Arrangements by George H.
