Mr. Zoltan Jakab age 85 of Brooker passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Gainesville. He was born March 26, 1937, in Dudar, Hungary to John and Elizabeth (Kish) Jakab. In 1956 at the age of 17 he immigrated from Hungary to the US and farmed in PA, later moving to Florida where he met his wife. Teaching himself English he became a US citizen and began his 43-year career with the University of Florida as an electrician. He was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church in Starke where he was their choir leader for many years, a devoted Deacon and loved the Lord. He never missed an opportunity to discuss the Bible and tell others about Jesus. He was loved by many and helpful to everyone. According to his grandkids there wasnt anything he couldnt fix! In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Nancy Jakab and a sister Elizabeth Jakab Nagy. Mr. Jakab leaves behind three daughters Doreen Myers (Harold) of Sevierville, Tennessee, Penny Banning (Chuck) of Williston, and Terri Jakab-Barker of Gainesville. Also left behind is a daughter of the heart Barbara Gilpin (Ralph) of Keystone Heights. He was lovingly called "Papa" by Amy Arrington, Kyle Barker (Jessica), Bailee Barker, Kaleb Myers, Marley Myers, and Emma Banning along with his great-grandson Braxton Barker. Funeral services for Mr. Jakab will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Charles Starling officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Dedan Cemetery.
